For over a decade, ¡OYE! Group has remained unwavering in our commitment to amplifying new voices – be they artists, students, or community members – and cultivating spaces for them to grow and share their work with others. Whether onstage or off, our work has always been founded in a central goal: to support Black and Latine communities in our Bushwick, Brooklyn neighborhood and beyond by using art to engage, educate, and inspire.
We are embarking on the biggest mission our company has done; we are finding a home. We started as a small group offering a combination of poetry readings and festivals to support emerging artists working across disciplines, while also providing free classes and workshops focused on poetry and Shakespeare to youth, teens, and adults. ¡Oye! Group now operates multiple programs for year-round impact: alongside our ongoing development of new stage productions, we offer free workshops for all-ages in poetry, and art; three free theater programs for youth each year including Fresh Start, a program for incarcerated youth; and three to four annual festivals. We have grown to a level we can now seek a home for all of our community to continue to grow and create together.
Imagine a vibrant, creative space in the heart of Bushwick, where artists grow, children discover their creativity, and the community comes together to celebrate the arts. Our organization has been fostering artistic talent, sparking creativity, and creating connections in our community for over ten years. Now, we’re ready to take the next step—by establishing a permanent home that will allow us to grow, inspire, and serve our community like never before.
This new space is more than just a building; it's our foundation for the future of art in Bushwick.
For Artists: Our new home will offer dedicated space and resources to help emerging artists develop their craft and reach new audiences. Imagine an artist hub of innovation, collaboration, and creativity.
For the Community: With this new location, we are excited to provide a welcoming space where children, adults, and seniors can come together to create, learn, and experience the joy of art.
For the Future: A permanent home means sustainability, stability, and growth. With a dedicated space, we can expand our programs, reach more people, continue to nurture the next generation of artists, and make a lasting impact on the lives of artists and community members alike.
